Playlist Vol. 5: November 11, 2012

These past few weeks, I find myself looking for the sounds of my youth. You see, when I was in elementary (until high school!), I used to save up my allowances so that I could buy the cassette albums of my favorite artists. Today, I got all my tapes (and mixed tapes, select songs recorded from the radio or CDs my parents purchased for me) in a box, tucked behind old clothes hanging inside my cabinet.

Lately, I find myself remembering certain songs I heard on the radio and whose videos I saw in MTV or Channel V during the very late 90s, spilling on to the early-to-mid 2000s.

It's interesting how these songs bring a part of you back to specific moments of your past. Listening to "Iris" reminds me of Meg Ryan in her bicycle in The City of Angels; "Underneath Your Clothes" reminds me of Shakira, her legs around the waist of her partner, being spun around; "Outside" reminds me of that banned, exhibitionist video; "Sober" reminds me of my best friend, Brian, singing this song at the top of his lungs in the soccer field in grade school; "All that I Need" reminds me of that compilation CD I bought from my friend, also in high school, to help out his sister's business; "Yellow" reminds me of my high school English teacher, Ms. Carol, who dedicated this song to us on our last class together, and and so on.
